Dr. Roberts earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his orthopedic residency at Albany Medical College. Dr. Roberts then went on to complete the neurosurgery/orthopaedic spine surgery-combined fellowship at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic. Following graduation, Dr. Roberts worked for several years in a large private practice in Florida, but has since returned to his native New York.
In addition to his busy surgical practice, Dr. Roberts is actively involved in medical research. He has authored over fifty orthopaedics-related publications, including journal articles and a variety of textbook chapters. Dr. Roberts has first-authored articles for a multitude of prestigious medical journals, including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Spine Journal. As a surgical intern, he published an introduction to orthopaedic surgery textbook for medical students and residents. Dr. Roberts was awarded the 2015 Prize in Basic Science Research from The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) and in 2013 was recognized by the North American Spine Society for having the Best Basic Science and Socioeconomics Paper.
Dr. Roberts believes that surgery should be as minimally disruptive as possible and that surgery is almost always a last resort. Having trained in a dual neurosurgical and orthopedic spine fellowship, Dr. Roberts is familiar with a broad range of minimally invasive and traditional spine surgical techniques. He assures his patients that he will do the least amount of surgery necessary to safely and effectively solve their problem. Dr. Roberts specializes in treating individuals of all ages with operative and non-operative spinal issues including, but not limited to, minimally invasive and traditional spine surgery, cervical spine conditions, athletic injuries to the spine, degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine, adult and pediatric spinal deformities, spine trauma and much more. Dr. Roberts is now accepting new patients.
