Dr. Rohan Desai is an orthopedic spine surgeon with New York Spine Institute (NYSI). He currently treats patients facing orthopedic and spine conditions at multiple NYSI locations across New York City and Long Island and performs surgical procedures at NYU Langone Hospital and Mercy Hospital. Dr. Desai focuses on cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal disorders, spine trauma, degenerative conditions and specializes in minimally invasive fusion and motion sparing techniques, including disc arthroplasty. He is highly trained in the latest spine technology and utilizes both computer-assisted navigation and robotic techniques. He works alongside fellow NYSI surgeons Dr. Alexandre B. De Moura, Dr. Peter Passias and Dr. Timothy Roberts.
Dr. Desai received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Florida and his doctorate in medicine from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and his fellowship in spine surgery from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA.
He is an active member of professional societies including North American Spine Society and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Desai has authored many peer-reviewed spine related articles and contributed to numerous medical journals. His work has also been presented at national and regional meetings.
In his free time, Dr. Desai is an avid professional sports fan and enjoys playing basketball and tennis. He uses this as a motivation when working to restore patients’ health and quality of life.
Dr. Desai currently resides in Manhattan.
