Michael Friar, D.P.T., our licensed physical therapist here at the NYSI provides Northport patients and those in the adjacent towns with the highest quality physical therapy treatment options. As part of your physical therapy, our specialists will provide instruction on proper stretching, exercise, and manual therapy. In addition, they will educate patients on the importance of body mechanics, postural awareness, and exercises that should be performed at home so as to avoid further injury.
Combining both cardio and weight machines helps to target strength and endurance training for all our Northport patients. Patients cannot begin a physical therapy regimen, however, until they are evaluated by a licensed physical therapist who determines exiting functioning levels, pain threshold and physical restrictions that reduce their daily activities. At New York Spine Institute we are equipped with an innovative radiology department including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is safe and noninvasive and is used for diagnosing a wide range of conditions. The state of the art diagnostics allow our radiologists to analyze bone and soft tissue anatomy images they can used to prescribe personalized care and treatment plans.
Our diagnostic imaging equipment includes: Digital Radiography (DX) x-rays and a high field short bore 1.5T MRI system that supports a wide range of clinical applications including but not limited to MRI’s of the Spine, Brain, Abdomen, Pelvis, Shoulder, Knee, Hip, Elbow, Wrist, Hand, Ankle and Foot.*
The 1.5T MRI system provides our physicians with high quality, detailed pictures that help our neck doctors and back doctors evaluate many different musculoskeletal disorders, while the MRI system produces detailed images by way of magnetism and radio waves. These images are used by our spine doctors and other physicians to evaluate various parts of the body and determine the presence of diseases or disorders that cannot be detected by other imaging systems including x-rays, ultrasounds or CT (Computed Tomography).*
