DIAGNOSIS OF YOUR BACK PAIN

If you find yourself suffering from ongoing back or neck pain that continuously interferes with your daily activities, then reach out to the dedicated team of doctors here at NYSI who specialize in the care and treatment of complexities of the spine. Back and neck pain treatment options begin with a consultation, and are followed with a thorough exam and analysis performed by a neck specialist who puts together pertinent data needed for the development of your customized treatment plan.

Following your consultation, tests will be performed with results provided to doctors and neck specialists to use in the development of your individual treatment plan. Once the doctor has performed their assessment, they will go over available treatment options, which includes physical therapy and bracing, surgical intervention, and anything in between. Back or neck pain treatments typically involve non-surgical procedures, but some cases may require surgical intervention.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Pain management is a critical part of your treatment plan. PHYSICAL THERAPY

When treatment involves a surgical procedure, physical therapy will play an important role in your recovery process. No matter how invasive or minimally invasive your surgery may be, rest assured a personalized PT plan will be administered as part of your post-surgery protocol. Physical therapy helps patients with movement and mobility, while decreasing pain, restoring function, and limiting disability in individuals with various injuries or impairments. *

Michael Friar, D.P.T., leads our physical therapy department here at the NYSI. He, along with all of our doctors and specialists, work together in administering physical therapy treatments to meet the needs of all our Inwood patients. PT plans are designed to incorporate proper stretching, exercise, and manual therapy with a primary goal of helping patients improve their health through the use of their own body mechanics and postural awareness. PT also includes home exercises that are beneficial to the healing process and help patients to avoid reinjury.

Physical therapy treatments will vary, but most will include a combination of cardio and weight machines that serve to target strength and endurance training. After performing a full assessment and evaluation of a patient’s health, a certified physical therapist will prescribe a personalized PT plan that will take into consideration pain thresholds, and any physical restrictions.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR INWOOD PATIENTS

The diagnostic equipment here at the NYSI, which includes an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging,) helps diagnose many conditions, and allows radiologists to analyze images of both bone and soft tissue anatomy. The NYSI also uses Long Length Imaging (LLI) which is used for performing scoliosis assessments on patients, and a high field short bore 1.5T MRI system, and a Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray that is truly state of the art. The 1.5T system supports multiple clinical applications, such as MRI’s of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle, and foot.*
