Premier Scoliosis Treatment Center Serving Centereach

At NYSI we are committed to helping patients who suffer with scoliosis. There are millions of people in the United States who are stricken by scoliosis, which is a side to side curvature of the spine, contrary to the natural front to back curves. If curves in the spine are minimal and insignificant, they typically cause no problems or complications. However, when the curves are large and significant they can result in a long list of health issues including, but again not limited to, fatigue, muscle pain, back pain, spinal arthritis, or even breathing issues.

If you or a loved one in Centereach, NY are in need of scoliosis treatment, then don’t delay in visiting the NYSI. Our spine and back specialists are highly skilled in the treatment of varying degrees and types of scoliosis, such as degenerative or common idiopathic scoliosis. Our well-known scoliosis treatment center has been recognized as one of the best in the U.S. as a result of our comprehensive approach to treating scoliosis. Our team of professionals offer extensive care for both children and adults suffering with scoliosis, since we fully understand the impact it has on individuals of all ages.*

Care and treatment of scoliosis by our spine doctors will depend upon the severity of your spine’s curvature. Some cases require our back surgeons to perform surgery on patients in Centereach and in the greater New York City areas. Our dedicated back surgeons possess years of knowledge and experience at our nationally ranked center, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.* Many of our back surgeons here at the NYSI have given lectures around the world on scoliosis treatments and many have authored publications on the topic as well. “If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. “I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

Physical Therapy

Part of a successful recuperation and rehabilitation is comprehensive physical therapy. It is important to understand that surgeries alone, even the most minimally invasive surgeries, cannot provide complete rehabilitation. Physical therapy is necessary to contribute to your movement and mobility, to decreased pain, restored function, and will help to limit disability in individuals with injuries or impairments. * Physical therapy treatments are especially important to those individuals that have lifestyles where strain to their neck and back are a part of their everyday routine. If you’ve experienced a neck or back injury, then reach out to the dedicated team of back specialists here at the NYSI.

New York Spine Institute takes tremendous pride in our licensed physical therapist, Michael Friar, D.P.T., who is committed to providing patients with the best all round physical therapy treatment options. As part of your physical therapy plan you will receive instructions on appropriate stretching, exercise, and manual therapy. It is important to educate all our Centereach patients and those in many of the adjacent towns on body mechanics, postural awareness, and exercises that can be done at home to aid in their rehabilitation. Physical therapy and proper education and instructions help to not only improve health but help to prevent reinjury as well.

Here at the NYSI we combine cardio and weight machines to target strength and endurance training for patients undergoing physical therapy. Prior to the startup of a physical therapy program however, patients must be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist who will determine present functioning levels, pain thresholds and physical restrictions that currently affect daily activities. Michael Friar, upon completion of your evaluation will determine the best treatment options for you and will set practical goals for you to achieve.

Imaging Services For Centereach Patients

At NYSI we have the most state of the art radiology department that includes magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is necessary for diagnosing a variety of conditions. The MRI is both safe and noninvasive, and helps our team to properly diagnose and provide proper treatment to all our patients. Diagnostic imaging allows for individualized care and treatment and provides radiologists with the tools they need to analyze various bone and soft tissue anatomies.

The diagnostic imaging tools here in the NYSI radiology department include Digital Radiography (DX) x-rays and a high field short bore 1.5T MRI system that supports a variety of clinical applications, including MRI’s of the Spine, Brain, Abdomen, Pelvis, Shoulder, Knee, Hip, Elbow, Wrist, Hand, Ankle and Foot.*

Our newly installed, innovative GE 1.5T system provides our physicians with the highest quality, detailed pictures of anatomy along with pathology to aid in evaluating a number of musculoskeletal disorders.

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a highly valuable tool used for diagnosing a wide range of conditions. The MRI procedure is not only safe and painless but non-invasive and utilizes magnetism and radio waves to produce the required images necessary to perform appropriate evaluations on patients. The MRI provides vivid images of various body parts and helps to identify certain diseases which may not be visible with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or CT (Computed Tomography). * At the facility we also offer Long Length Imaging (LLI) for appropriate assessments of scoliosis.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
