The NYSI has a fully equipped radiology department. The department is equipped with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is safe and noninvasive. The MRI is used for diagnosing a variety of conditions and provides doctors with the resources and tools they need to perform accurate diagnoses. The diagnostics afford radiologists information needed to analyze bone and soft tissue anatomy images when creating a personalized care and treatment plan.
Our diagnostic imaging equipment includes: Digital Radiography (DX) x-rays and a high field short bore 1.5T MRI system that supports a wide range of clinical applications including but not limited to MRI’s of the Spine, Brain, Abdomen, Pelvis, Shoulder, Knee, Hip, Elbow, Wrist, Hand, Ankle and Foot.*
A state of the art 1.5T MRI system provides high quality, detailed pictures doctors can use when evaluating many different musculoskeletal disorders. The MRI system produces its detailed images by combining magnetism and radio waves. The images produced are then used by our spine doctors and other physicians to perform an accurate evaluation on the various parts of the body and determine the presence of a wide range of diseases or disorders. The MRI system is far more effective and more reliable than typical x-rays, ultrasounds or CT (Computed Tomography).*
The NYSI spine surgeons and certified neck doctors want all our Stony Brook patients to feel comfortable and at home in our facility. We provide a truly relaxing and calming environment and offer patients a choice of music, earplugs and a comfortable sleeping mask.
Our radiology department is also equipped with Long Length Imaging (LLI) used for proper scoliosis assessments.
